Dear Martine Zoer,
My name is Stephanie Gonzalez and I am a senior at Social Justice High School in Chicago. I was recently asked to choose an issue that I am passionate about to research and take action on. I chose to research the topic of gender stereotypes. I chose this because it has brought my attention on the way in which clothing and toys have changed for both boys and girls, and also how it is that gender stereotypes can impact the child to adulthood, and it concerns me to know if people are aware of gender stereotypes.
I have found about your campaign, and was fascinated about the clothing in which you provide for children. I had done research from my topic to which I have seen how it is that the clothing of children has changed to “fit” the stereotypes of the gender. And have found the actions being taken for these types of situations. It is important for people to know that because of a gender there should be specific things in which only that gender can have. Children should be able to wear and play with what they wish. There is no “robbing of gender” of a boy who plays with dolls or a girl who plays with cars.
Within my research I have also found the negative impacts in which gender stereotypes can have on children as they develop into adulthood. And the in which it has come to seeing one gender less than the other. Or the expectations in which we are to see from one another. It is important for to people to know how gender stereotypes has their mind set, and why it is important to know more about it. Thank you for your time, and also for the work in which you have been doing.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Gonzalez
